MUSIC CITY SPIN: “My latest album reflects a return to the composing and piano playing of my childhood.” — Chuck Whiting (I’m “Going Full Circle,” and I’d like you to come along. I write a lot of vocal tunes these days, but that wasn’t how my musical journey started. Original music in the form of compositions started to pour out of me after I taught myself how to play piano at an early age. By sixth grade, I was sharing my pieces with grammar school friends, whose grandparents were generally the ones who took notice. The 10 compositions on this project were written before 2006. I recorded them during a full day of uninterrupted playing on a Steinway grand at Hilltop Studios in Nashville. There was no editing. What you hear is what I played… every note. I don’t consider myself a great keyboard player technically. Instead, I pour out my emotions into colorful chord progressions that twist and turn up and down the white and black keys (with a lot of black ones). I discover my melodies along the way. My dream is to have some of my music featured in movies one day. But short of that, I just like to express, bless and encourage. Music is my escape… a way to share emotions from the quiet, introspective part of me. I will share insight on each cut from the project in the coming weeks and months.
