about

The man and woman had broken up years earlier. Then, out of the blue, they spotted each other on the crowded dance floor at a local bar. She gave him a sly smile, then dodged her way toward him through the swaying crowd. “Would you like to dance?” she asked, pulling him away from his date. Stunned, he silently acquiesced as if a robot and took her hand. The 30ish lady leaned against him and whispered in his ear, “Do you still love me?” He paused, pulled back abruptly with surprise, then answered, “No, I don’t love you anymore.” But she knew him better than that. She still loved him, too. The band played its last refrain of a classic hit they both knew oh so well. The former lovers walked away in opposite directions as the music died, looking back briefly as they returned to separate lives. (I wrote this song on piano back in 2005 while reflecting on the ache of a passion gone wrong. I imagine myself playing it in a small town dive, commiserating with fellow lost lovers. This recording, which shows my bluesier side, features Tim Thompson on guitar and John Heinrich on horns. It was produced by Chuck Whiting (me) with creative insights from Tim Thompson and music adviser Dwight Liles. Copyright 2005/Sound Recording 2024 by Chuck Whiting (Striking Moon Music/ASCAP)
